Description: The basket we will make is a 10" ribbed basket. This traditional basket uses a technique that can produce many shapes and styles. They also have as many names which often describe how they were used. The fully rounded woven halves of the shaped basket kept eggs from rolling against one another when they were gathered and carried to kitchen or to market: hence egg basket. The indentations on the sides also make it comfortable to carry against the hip and was often called a "hip" basket. Students will learn how to lash handles using a God's Eye design, form and shape ribs, and weave the basket. They should be able to leave with a finished basket or have the skills and materials to complete at home.

Supplies to bring: A plastic wash tub (I use a 12 x 15") for soaking reed, towel, heavy scissors or clippers, flexible measuring tape, clothespins, pencil, apron to protect clothes. If they have an awl, they could also include that.
